Event Overview

Create a fun charity race for your office or department.  It can be anything from a 5k run or a bike ride to sillier races like scooters, roller skates, dress-up, piggy back, etc.  Whatever will get people excited and interested in taking part.

This is an in-person event that can be a single office or can include people across departments and locations.

What you'll need to run this event

Before Event

  1. Choose your race and its rules along with entry fees, prizes, etc.
  2. Identify your course and if you need permission to access it
  3. Decide if you will have food available to spectators at a cost
  4. Reach out to people to sign up for the race
  5. Sign up volunteers for support (setup, cleanup, accepting payment, etc.)
  6. Outreach to advertise event to all possible attendees to come and cheer on people and/or teams
  7. Waiver needed for this event
  8. Request/Get Awards and Prizes for Winner(s)
  9. Request/Get materials depending on food (plates, bowls, tablecloths, bibs, etc.)

Day Of Event

  1. Setup course with volunteers including start/finish, water stations, etc.
  2. Food or drink sales is applicable
  3. Track "paying" attendees at event
  4. Breakdown/Cleanup of event
  5. Complete Event Report Form
    1. 2 volunteers count cash and checks, initial/record on event report form
  6. Find SECU branch near you to get FREE cashier check for cash amount
    1. If unable to get the same day as event, lock up cash/checks overnight
  7. Mail cashier check to SECC

What you'll get from the SECC for running this event

  • Food supplies such as bowls, plates, utensils
  • Waiver for participants
  • Accept participant payment online - (https://ncsecc.org/secc-donor-event/)
  • $25 gift card for first place prize. (***Use request form below***)

***For supplies delivery, please fill out request at least 7 biz days before event.  Pickup of supplies available in Durham until day before event***
